A fire department does not know when it will have a line-of-duty death or serious injury and Fire Chiefs and survivors tell us that most Fire Departments are not prepared for these events.
Join us for half-day workshop on February 15th, 2023 as we discuss recent changes to the federal line-of-duty benefits offered through the PSOB program. Our guest speaker will be Ian Bennett, National Local Assistance State Team (LAST) Coordinator for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
Ian’s presentation will discuss the various aspects of handling a firefighter line of duty death including pre-incident planning, survivor notification, family and coworker support, and benefits and resources available. There will be a detailed discussion of the Department of Justice Public Safety Officer Benefit program which provides death, disability and educational benefits to the survivors of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other first responders whose death (or catastrophic injury) was result of an injury sustained in the line of duty. Discussion will include eligibility, beneficiaries, how to apply and recent legislation highlighting key changes in the program.
We will also be covering other topics related to hiring and recruiting in today’s employment environment, including presentations by attorney Shawn Flaherty from the Ottosen DiNolfo Hasenbalg & Castaldo Ltd. and Rick Lochner from RPC Leadership Associates, Inc.
