We are honored to help sponsor the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association of Illinois Fall Symposium happening on 9/7/2023 The Empress in Addison, IL.
Presentations:
“National Fallen Firefighter Foundation (NFFF) Overview presented by Federal Public Safety Officer Benefit (PSOB) Updates and Other Related Information” presented by National Local Assistance Team (LAST) Coordinator for the NFFF, Ian Bennett.
Learn the latest about these topics as well as the “Taking Care of Our Own” program, the Local Assistance State Team, and the Uniformed Peer Support Program. This is an encore (with updates) to programs Retired Chief Bennett has presented in the Illinois on several occasions over the past several months to rave reviews. Every fire department needs to have this important information.
“Apprentice Firefighter Programs” presented by College of DuPage Fire Science & EMS Programs Director Ryan Lambert and Aurora Fire Chief David McCabe.
With the difficulty in finding quality candidates to hire – and even in getting enough individuals to apply for firefighter positions – and with Statutory changes that provide for apprentice firefighters, which may help alleviate some of the concerns, it is important for all fire chiefs to understand what such programs entail, what the statutory requirements are (including necessary agreements with the unions), and how they may benefit fire departments and future firefighters. Chief McCabe and Director Lambert will explain the programs and requirements – and will describe Aurora FD’s and COD’s apprenticeship programs. Aurora Firefighters’ Union reps will be present to answer any questions from their point of view.
